How to Scope an AI MVP Without Overbuilding

Before listing features, write down what you need to learn. You may be testing whether people will trust an AI-assisted workflow, whether a manual process is painful enough to replace, or whether a specific audience will return to the product.

The first version should make that decision easier. Features that do not contribute to the learning goal are candidates for later, even when they are appealing ideas.

Describe the journey from the user entering the product to the useful result they leave with. Include the source of context, the AI step, the human review point and the final action.

Authentication, billing, permissions and administration matter, but they do not all need the same depth on day one. Add the minimum platform structure that makes the core workflow usable and trustworthy, then leave expansion points for later decisions.

AI output can be incomplete or wrong. A useful MVP gives users a way to review the result, understand its source where appropriate and recover when the system cannot complete the task. This is part of scope, not polish.

If removing a feature would prevent the primary user from reaching the learning goal, keep it. If removing it only postpones convenience, reporting or scale, place it in a later slice. That simple test creates a better conversation between product, design and engineering.
